Merry Christmas

This is the first post of my newly minted blog. I have been thinking about doing this for some time. I thought that Christmas Day is as good a time as any to start a blog. The main thrust of my blog will be wood carving, wood sculpting and wood design.

At this time of year I like to have a project that I can do with my wife. This year, I carved three whimsical figures. Each figure represented one of our three children. I carved two of the figures out of basswood. The third figure I carved from two pieces of oak that I had glued together because I did not have any basswood of the right size. I had all these odds and ends of hardwood so I decided to glue two pieces together to create my blank.

My wife worked magic in painting and decorating the figures. In the end, we created three distinct figures that represented each  one of your children. We added a sign that each child appears to be holding. The sign says, "FAVOURITE CHILD". It is our way of saying that each of our children is equally favored. the figures can stand upright alone but they were meant to be hung on a Christmas tree.

Merry Christmas!
